ROTARY GLOBAL HISTORY FELLOWSHIP 10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

CHICAGO OCTOBER 10-12, 2010

BY

DICK MCKAY- RGHF SECRETARY/TREASURER EMERITUS

On 11 October 2000, Rotarian Jack Selway, Colorado, USA, conceived the idea of incorporating the histories of the first 50 Rotary Clubs on the internet. Since Rotary started in Chicago, I called him and offered the support of ROTARY/One in this effort. Within days, then DG 5470 Eddie Blender, Wichita #30 Club President Geri Appel, and New York #6 webmaster Matts Ingemanson joined our ranks.   Shortly before the San Antonio Convention in June 2001, we decided to invite the officers of the first 50 clubs to a cocktail party, which we guaranteed. We were overwhelmed with the response and by the time we left the convention we had concluded we should preserve the first 100 clubs of the world. Today, we have histories of nearly 1,000 clubs, including more than half of the Rotary world’s districts, and many other projects beyond the clubs.R/O Rotarian Angelo Loumbas provided the legal expertise which enabled us to successfully request Fellowship status from Rotary International. This was granted on 3 October 2003.

RGHF has a Board comprised of 56 members who represent 34 zones and zone sections. The board is convened online, monthly, over a three day period. There are currently 15 historians and 10 webmasters volunteering their time. RGHF has more than 600 dues paying members and is growing rapidly. ($30.00 per year)  The website contains over 25,000 articles about the Global History of Rotary included in more than 4,000 pages on the internet. There are more than 100 separate projects underway at RGHF. This information is available free of charge to anyone accessing rghf.org.

The celebration of the 10th anniversary of RGHF will also be the launching pad for the first RGHF Institute. The purpose of the Institute is to find a handful of Rotarians who will dedicate their lives to history, so that thousands more might dedicate their lives to Rotary. The Board has approved the tentative following locations for the next 15 years.

Report of the Board - Request for Club and Foundation Administrative Services

A request for proposal (RFP) is being solicited for administrative and financial support for the upcoming year for the Rotary Club of Chicago and the Rotary/One Foundation.

"effectus, LLC" headed by David Phelps continues to be the contractor of record for the Rotary Club of Chicago and the Rotary/One Foundation, but the Board of both the Club and the Foundation believe it to be prudent business practice to periodically request bids from both "effectus, LLC" and other providers for the future services.

To apply see Rotary Request for Proposal for details.

Bids with description of how bidder intends to provide key deliverables should be clear and concise and are due no later than August 11, 2010.

Upon approval of the Rotary Club of Chicago Board of Directors and the Rotary/One Foundation Trustees, the successful bidder (or bidders) will commence providing services as soon as mutually agreeable.

The Board established an Adhoc Committee on Administrative Services, chaired by Arol Augsburger.   Their commission is:

An ad hoc committee shall be appointed to determine which duties of the administrative provider reasonably may be absorbed by club volunteers in order to reduce expenses. In making this determination, the Committee shall consult with effectus LLC as much as is necessary and also obtain and analyze whatever data is deemed by the committee to be relevant. Once a list of duties and responsibilities of the administrative provider has been compiled by the Committee, the Committee shall prepare a request for proposal ("RFP") and seek outside proposals. effectus LLC will be asked to submit a proposal in response to the RFP, as will other potential providers chosen by the Committee. Taking all of the above into account, and based upon the responses received to the RFP and any other information reviewed and obtained by the Committee, including, but not limited to, a complete analysis of the historical costs of administrative services provided to both the club and the foundation, administrative services provided without charge, administrative services provided in support of service projects undertaken by the club, the costs and consequences of transitioning to a new administrative provider, and the goals of club leadership, the Committee shall report its findings and recommendations to the board with respect to the recommended administrative services provider for the 2010 through 2013 Rotary years, the recommended cost of such service, and the recommended method by which such costs shall be divided between the club and the foundation.
