Luncheon: Janet Yueh-Yun Lin and Mark Gruen, Haiti Project

Visiting Rotarian Roger Tung, RC Formosa Happiness, Taiwan, District 3490 leading a delegation of 28 members and spouses to tour Chicago and will attend the luncheon.

Speakers -- 

Janet Lin, MD, MPH

Janet Lin is Associate Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine at University of Illinois at Chicago and is Affiliate Associate Professor in the Division of Community Health Sciences in the School of Public Health.  She is Director of Health Systems Development in the Center for Global Health.  She recently stepped down as the director of the International Emergency Medicine and Global Health Fellowship program after 11 years which trains post-graduate physicians to become leaders in global health. She has earned certificates in tropical medicine and has consulted on global health issues. She has done extensive work primarily in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

 

Dr. Lin has led multidisciplinary teams which include nursing, public health, medicine, business, and engineering to various parts of the world in order to improve access and the provision of care in resource-limited settings.

 

Closer to home, she is the principal investigator of a program, Project HEAL, that works to increase HIV and HCV education, awareness, testing, and linkage to care.

 

Dr. Lin has been recognized locally, nationally and internationally for her service and education. She is a recipient of the University’s Excellence in Teaching Award, a merit-based award for tenured faculty recognizing academic distinction. She served as Chair of the International Section of the American College of Emergency Physicians and is currently the President-Elect of the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians. 

Mark Gruen
Mr. Gruen is a recognized direct and digital marketing executive.
In 1984 he founded Gruen+Sells, Ltd., a nationally recognized direct marketing advertising agency.  The firm’s clients have included: Allstate, Discover Card, GE Capital, Lowes, MasterCard International, Move, Inc., National Association of Realtors, Sears, Talbots, Target and more.  
His deep knowledge of direct marketing techniques easily shifted to the digital marketing age, where he created new businesses for himself and others, including Paymentflex (a credit card payment system), TwoBuckDuck.com (a group coupon site), Tribe Custom Jeanmakers (jeans made-to-measure), and HomePoints.com (a rewards program for moving households). 
His expertise includes a deep understanding of a product or service’s  effective branding, image, positioning, and the importance of crisp, clear, simple and persuasive messaging.
