The responsibilities in the new member orientation program include:
FOR NEW MEMBERS:
- Attend at least six monthly New Member Orientation Meetings in the first year of membership
- Join one committee or sub-committee of the Rotary Club of Chicago in the first year of membership
- Participate
meaningfully in the Rotary Club of Chicago's Annual Fund for the
ROTARY/One Foundation (Consider becoming a Ches Perry Fellow with a
$1,000. contribution)
- Participate meaningfully in the Rotary
International Foundation. (Consider becoming a Paul Harris Fellow with a
$1,000. contribution)
- In the first year of membership, attend at least two Rotary After Hours events with mentor
- At
least once in the first year, sit at the reception table for regular
Tuesday luncheon meetings and introduce yourself to those checking-in to
the meeting.
- Attend and participate in one of ROTARY/One's
service projects in the first year of membership (Job1 mentor,
bell-ringing for Salvation Army, Children's Christmas party for March of
Dimes/Easter Seals, etc.)
- Attend a Rotary meeting at a club
other than the Rotary Club of Chicago at least twice in the first year
of membership. (This is known as a "make-up" meeting and will expose new
members to the richness and breadth of Rotary.
- Attend a Rotary Club of Chicago Board Meeting, or Attend a ROTARY/One Foundation Meeting
- Present a "Thought for the Day"
Also, accomplish at least one of the following in your inaugural year:
(while recognizing that you can certainly do as many of these activities as you are able)
- Join one of the Rotary International Fellowships
- Attend the Rotary 6450 District Conference
- Attend the Rotary International Convention
- Attend a Rotary District Assembly
- Attend a Rotary Leadership Institute
- Sponsor a New ROTARY/One Member
FOR EXISTING MEMBERS:
- Mentor a new club member (A sponsor of a new member should consider becoming the new member's mentor)
- Attend at least one regular club luncheon meeting a month with mentee during the first year of his/her membership.
- Attend at least two Rotary After Hours events with mentee during his/her first year.
- As Mentor, track and encourage your mentee to continue to participate in the expected responsibilities
- Provide
the Membership Committee on your observations and your recommendations
for his/her future involvement on service projects and committees of the
club or the district.
FOR COMITTEE CHAIRS:
- As
requested by the New Member Orientation Task Force, attend several New
Member Orientation meetings to explain the operations and goals and
service projects of your committee.
- Invite new members to consider joining your committee, or one of its subcommittees.
- Attend at least one Rotary After Hours event during the year with a new member.
FOR CLUB EXECUTIVE OFFICERS:
- As
requested by the New Membership Orientation Task Force, attend several
New Member Orientation meetings to talk about Rotary, Rotary/One and
the importance of participation by each member in the service projects,
foundations as well as the fun of being a Rotarian; especially in the
Rotary Club of Chicago.
- Attend at least one Rotary After Hours event during the year with a new member.
